Basic Equipment

There are a number of essential items of equipment your child will need to provide for themselves and to bring to school on a daily basis.

Pencil sharpener
Ruler – 30cm or one that folds in half
Colouring pencils
(Felt tips are useful but inadvisable for work in exercise books as the colour tends to go through onto the following page)
Pair of compasses
Strong pencil case
School Planner (Provided by the school)
A notebook
Subject Exercise Books

In the past pupils have found it useful to have their own safety scissors and a small stick of glue.

Certain subjects require specialist equipment as follows:-

Set of drawing pencils – HB – 2B – 4B
Biro Pen
Pencil sharpener
Pupils will also need to buy a sketchbook from the Art Department priced £1 – pupils will use this for their coursework throughout the academic year.

Calculator and protractor

Pupils may wish to purchase a scientific calculator which will also be suitable for Mathematics through the school. The Mathematics Faculty recommend a Casio which is available at school. This calculator will be necessary for some science lessons particularly in Year 9. Please refer to letter from Head of Maths sent out in May.

Pupils are encouraged to have their own dictionary and thesaurus. Competent spellers should have a pocket dictionary (Oxford/Collins).

Modern Foreign Languages:

All pupils are expected to have a Modern Foreign Languages dictionary in the language they are studying.

Each subject department will explain particular needs to pupils during the first lesson.
