On Wednesday the 14th February the Science and Technology departments got together with 15 Pupils from year 8 to the Big Bang STEM Event in Bridgend College Pencoed Campus. The event was organised by the Engineering Education Scheme in Wales (EESW).

The Pupils really enjoyed themselves as they got opportunities to try out new technologies, like VR Headsets with Sony and mind control games with mad science. They made bouncy balls, tried their hand at virtual welding and real life soldering. There were stands, displays and activities from Sony, Ford, TATA Steel, Control 2K, GE, Welsh Water and Renishaw. There was even a cheeky dancing robot and great excitement at visiting all the stands especially when they got a free goody bag to take away!

This was a great introduction into the world of engineering and possible career prospects for our students and hopefully will inspire them to stake STEM further in their future. We will be looking to expand this visit with further STEM events in the near future.
